Do epic sh*t.
Really, that’s why I’m involved with The New Communicators team. When this whole kernel of an idea came about during a Likeminds coffee gathering, I immediately knew I had to be part of helping a Portland-wide event come to be. Back at Webvisions 2009, DL Byron of Bikehugger (whom Erin mentioned earlier) challenged us all to “do epic shit.” That means challenging myself to be part of a larger idea and to facilitate meaningful conversations and communities.
The evolving landscape of tools and opportunities for conversations that build communities absolutely fascinates me. The way local individuals and groups can use a conversation to meet new people, rally around a cause, build a business, or stay in touch with friends and colleagues is amazing. I want to see what other people are doing in this age of communication. I want to learn from them. I don’t think of myself as a leader or exemplar in this, I’m here to make this epic convergence happen.
For me, this is about putting on a massive festival of conversation and learning about anything and everything that’s going on in Portland. I want to hear about how you are using new and traditional ways of building a conversation around your cause, business, kickball team, sewing habit, and burning ideas. I know the mix of online/offline media and experiences in Portland has reshaped my community personally and professionally, connecting me with like-minded folks and given me access to conversations I might not have otherwise been part of. I want to hear about how a conversation you had lead to something greater, changed your life, taught you something.
I envision coffee gatherings to discuss an idea, panels and debates, interactive art collaborations, how-to lunches, opportunities to show & tell what you’re doing; whatever it is you feel would help you tell your story and share your ideas.
I want this to be epic. I want us to transcend ourselves — even for one moment — and see how inspiring, smart, funny, and conversational Portland can be.
Still too vague? Email me (stacy(at)thoughtsanddeeds.com) and I’d be happy to do more ’splainin’.
I don’t know If I said it already but …Hey good stuff…keep up the good work!
I read a lot of blogs on a daily basis and for the most part, people lack substance but, I just wanted to make a quick comment to say I’m glad I found your blog. Thanks,)
A definite great read..Jim Bean
