Six Conversation Types for Community Engagement

Tim DuRoche of Portland Center Stage shared a great article from A Small Group, a civic engagement group working for the betterment of Cincinnati. The article outlines six conversation guideposts, which could serve to aid in providing structure and understanding about some potentially difficult conversations they no doubt involve themselves in. Here’s a taster:

One: The Invitation Conversation

Transformation occurs through choice, not mandate. Invitation is the call to create an alternative future. What is the invitation we can make to support people to participate and own the relationships, tasks, and process that lead to success?

There’s more where that came from. I recommend reading it through a couple times and trying to apply the descriptions to conversations you’ve been in recently. When was the last time you had a Dissent Conversation that ended in a constructive outcome? Could it have gone better?

Great stuff. Thanks Tim!
